A bony or soft tissue injury caused by a rapid
forward/backward movement experienced in a rear end or side impact motor
vehicle collision or a sporting accident such as in rugby.
Neck pain occurs in 65% of patients within 6 hours, 93% within 24
hours, and 100% within 72 hours after neck injury. In general, most
patients recover from the symptoms within the first 2 – 3 months in which there
is an opportunity to improve outcomes through the correct treatment and
self-management.
